Ours is an effective, efficient, multi-disciplinary approach to land use planning and landscape architecture, with special emphasis on land use analysis, site-specific design and landscape design for both the public and private development sectors. UDS is highly respected for its ability to liaise between clients and all levels of government within the State of Florida. Our staff members are highly regarded by members of the real estate development community as the go-to team for governmental expertise and assistance. Most members of our staff hold one or more professional certifications and/or degrees in their field of expertise, and several hold master’s degrees. The ability to work seamlessly with the public and private sectors allows the firm’s project managers to guide projects along the most time- and cost-effective path to success.

UDS offers premier design and professional services to our clients. Our network of professional partners, including architects, attorneys, engineers, environmental consultants and public relations agencies is drawn from the best of the best. We work with these partners regularly, allowing our Project Managers to build an efficient project team perfectly suited to both geographic location and tasks.

Ken Tuma

Managing Principal

Ken is Managing Principal of Urban Design Studio. He directs the firm’s major land planning, governmental approvals and urban design projects. Prior to taking the reins at UDS, he served as VP of Planning, Engineering and Development with WCI Communities, Inc. and held positions with Toll Brothers, Inc., Taylor Woodrow Communities and The Villages. He has been a featured speaker on land use topics for many organizations in South Florida. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Economic Council of Palm Beach County and is an active member of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, Urban Land Institute and several other professional and civic organizations.

Ken is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, B.S. in Agronomy; Business Minor. He’s a fervent Ohio State Buckeyes fan and is proud of the fact that there’s a disproportionately large number of transplanted Ohioans and the UDS staff.

 

Wendy Tuma

PLA, ASLA, Principal

Wendy is a Principal and Senior Landscape Architect and Site Planner. A 20-year veteran in the land planning industry, she has an extensive background in residential community design and has worked with some of the biggest home builders in the area, mixed-use projects such as Delray Marketplace, and a variety of commercial, civic and institutional projects. In addition to design, Wendy also works with municipalities on land use amendments, annexations and rezoning applications. She is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, as well as a past board member and president of the Palm Beach County Planning Congress.

Wendy holds a B.S. in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin. A native of Wisconsin, she grew up on a family-owned and operated dairy farm with her nine siblings and credits her upbringing for her non-stop energy. She admits that home life can get a little complicated on game days when her beloved Wisconsin Badgers face her husband Ken’s Ohio State Buckeyes. Their children have to choose sides, creating a serious house divided.

Rob Dinsmore

Principal, PLA, ASLA 

Rob is a Principal and Landscape Architect and Project Manager. He joined UDS in 2016 and brought with him his extensive experience in project management, site design, and construction of both public and private sector projects, developed over a 10-year career throughout the mid-west and south-east Florida. Rob is responsible for conceptual master planning, site design, landscape design, and project entitlement application processing and public representation for large scale commercial and mixed-use development projects, including Lenox North Beach Residential, 303 Banyan Residential, Polo Club Shoppes expansion, and FPL’s Manatee Lagoon expansion and renovation.

Rob has earned a B.S in Landscape Architecture from West Virginia University. Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, Rob and his wife Melanie relocated to Stuart, Florida in 2016. Their two children have already grown accustomed to the warm weather, and dread returning to the cold weather of fall football games back at West Virginia University.

 

Joni Brinkman

Principal and Senior Planner, AICP

Joni is a Principal and Senior Planner. She has worked in the planning and zoning field since 1986, earning invaluable knowledge along the way. She began her career with UDS in 1994 as a zoning technician and rejoined in 2006 as a planning project manager after more than 10 years working for other firms. She quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed planning director, overseeing the firm’s Planning Division. In addition to her vast experience representing private and public-sector clients in Palm Beach and Broward Counties, she has developed particular expertise in eminent domain cases throughout South Florida for condemning authorities as well as individual property owners.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and has contributed countless hours to various planning & zoning related board and committee appointments throughout her career.

Joni holds a B.S. in Administrative Office and Personnel Management from Eastern Illinois University. She lives with her husband Paul in the Village of Palm Springs where she is a long-serving Village Council Member and current Vice Mayor. Those with a keen eye can spot Joni in the guise of “Mrs. Clause” in the Village’s holiday parade each year. With two adult children, Joni and Paul share an active empty nester lifestyle that includes boating, fishing, bowling and golf.

Nicholas Mihelich

Principal and Senior Landscape Architect, PLA, ASLA

Nick is a Principal and Senior Landscape Architect. Nick joined UDS in 1997, and specializes in community-enhancing streetscape designs and destination commercial and mixed-use developments such as the very attractive Palm Beach Outlets in West Palm Beach, and Delray Marketplace in Delray Beach. He begins many projects with eye-catching conceptual sketches that cannot be captured by computer generated drawings and moves the design process forward.  By incorporating community input and construction expertise, he brings his ideas to fruition in harmony with the vertical construction of each project. He is the Vice Chairman for The City of West Palm Beach Downtown Action Committee (“DAC”), and a member of the Florida Urban Forestry Council and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Nick received his B.S. in Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida. He lives in West Palm Beach with his wife Nicole and son Finn, a redhead just like his dad. When not at a job site wearing his signature wide-brimmed straw hat or enjoying time with his family and friends, Nick relishes the rock star life as a talented bassist for the Dryvin’ South Band.

 

Bradley Miller

Principal, AICP

Bradley was previously employed with Miller Land Planning, Inc. and joined UDS in April 2020. He has been serving the Florida land development community with planning and zoning services since 1984. In 1997, Bradley established Miller Land Planning, Inc to provide the Florida development community with personal, hands-on planning, zoning, and development permitting services. Bradley’s experience is based on design with master planning and site planning for various types of developments ranging from large tract residential planned unit developments and "big box" retail centers to small parcel individual uses. Bradley has also served as an expert witness for land planning legal cases.

Bradley has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Natural Science from Goshen College, Indiana. Bradley was certified as a planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) in 1994.  He has used the education to learn and understand the planning and development industry by starting his career working for a developer in Tampa before moving to a prominent consulting firm where he advanced into a project management role for the 1,800 acre Westchase development located in the northwest area of Tampa as well as many other smaller developments in the Tampa/Hillsborough County area. In 1990 Bradley transferred to Palm Beach County and was employed as a planning consultant until starting Miller Land Planning, Inc. in 1997.
